The Spirit of Advent is the preparation for the coming of Christ. In Luke’s Gospel, John the Baptist is presented to show everyone how to prepare:
And the crowds asked him, “What then should we do?” He said to them in reply, “Whoever has two tunics should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.” (Lk 3:10-11)
